Lila will always hold a special place in our hearts and in our family history because in 1983 she rescued my wife and two sons when they were stranded at the JFK airport in New York.
Here is the reader’s digest version of the story.
In 1983 my wife, Shelly, flew home from Germany with our two boys to see family and attend her High School reunion. I stayed in Germany because for most of the summer I was in the field doing Army Training.
Flying back home to Germany she needed to change airlines in New York and when she reported to the ticket counter of the new airline, something had gone wrong with the reservation and the new airline didn't have a seat for her. She was stranded. Luckily the military had a Travel Assistance Center in the airport so Shelly had access to a phone and she started thinking of who she could call for help.
Shelly couldn’t call me as I was driving from Berlin to Frankfurt. My Mom was on the road home from Seattle and Shelly’s parents were at the Seattle Temple. The only person she could think of to call was Lila and when she got ahold of her Lila jumped into action. She found a travel agent and purchased the tickets that Shelly needed to get back to Germany.
Lila blessed our family in so many ways that day. I will always be grateful for her rescuing my family in our time of need.
Shelly and I will miss her but look forward to a grand reunion someday.

We will gather in November. A season that projects a certain sadness in the transition from fall to winter. However, we are not sad. We will come together to honor and pay our respects to Mom, our Friend, Mother, Wife, Aunt, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Lila Lee Abraham. Her Mom and Dad, Brother many Aunts, Uncles and most of her Cousins have gone on before her. They have awaited her return to them.
Before she was Mom, she was Lila Lee growing up as an energetic young lady in the sunshine, East of the Cascades. She went to college, met my Dad and started a family. She was a protective Mom, devoted wife, and a dedicated worker. Mom was faithful in her Church where she met and married Bill Abraham, the sunshine of her life. In Moms retirement she enjoyed a full and active life with Bill.
The last few years have seen the veil slowly descend upon Mom. Though she has been well prepared for this journey, it took a while. However, with her bags packed, she left us on her eternal journey. We now wave goodbye. Goodbye Mom until we meet again.
